I went shopping on Saturday at DFO and got some clothes but more importantly there was a kitchenware sale with 60% off the marked price of all stock in the store!  So I dragged my mum in with me and I spent a gleeful half an hour trying to reason with myself not to buy everything.  I took horrible grainy photos of the things I got, which I thought were cheap at the time, but really are just decent and reasonable prices.  So it’s okay.

6 piece icing set ($4.00) – now I don’t have to be dodgy and ice all my cakes with a knife and a plastic bag of icing/cream!  I can reuse this syringe-y looking thing over and over again and it’s not a limp bag and I can control the flow of the icing and I’m excited to use it.  Also bonus spatula (I think we have a spatula lurking in the cutlery drawer somewhere.  Maybe.) and other nozzles.  Can’t wait to try making things look professional.

Cookie cutters ($2.60) – six cookie cutters, one edge being fluted and one edge being a straight cut (i.e. you can use both sides depending on whether you want fancy shaped biscuits or plain ones).  I’ve been either using a knife or a tumbler for cutting shapes, so this will be a much-needed set.  I sat in the car on the way back thinking this one was definitely a splurge, but hey if you put the price in perspective with other things it’s quite cheap.  It’s just six pieces of plastic in another plastic case, but I’m sure these will be very useful.

12.3cm large ramekin ($2.40) – there were so many pieces of china oven-to-tableware (like ramekins, little pie dishes, etc.) that I just had so much trouble deciding what to get.  Only earlier last week (on Wednesday) I had gone to Aldi solely for their ‘white-gold toned’ ramekins which are not the best quality but they look quite good and not different from any other ramekins, just cheaper.  So there were similar ramekins in this store, only a plain white, although there was a coloured set of five that was very cheap just not as cheap as Aldi.  There were also creme brulee pots (basically a ramekin but I associate them with creme brulee alone because I’ve never seen them used otherwise), pretty little red cherry pie dishes and oval ramekins and basically a stacked up table of I-want-some-of-everything.  Ended up getting one of the largest ramekins because then I can make my potato bake in it.  Not that my current potato-bake-dish isn’t good enough in any way, but I just desperately wanted to buy something off that table.

Here is a photo with the pie tin for comparison.

On a side note, I saw massive mugs that were basically flower vases with handles.  Showed them to mum and suggested she buy one for dad.  Because he used to have this 500mL mug and then one day the handle broke off so he couldn’t use it anymore.  He’s been happy with a Hot Dollar Christmas mug we got him, but heck I wanted to see him with that massive mug, if only just to laugh at its sheer size; it was at least 20cm tall.

20cm fluted pie tin  ($12.00) – as I went in the store I obviously had bakeware at the forefront of my mind, but the store only had the basic biscuit trays, cake pans and muffin pans.  And a ‘macaroon/whoopie pie’ tray with little round indents but I wasn’t going to waste money on getting that.  But, with some stroke of luck I found a loose-bottomed pie tin!  Not only was it something I needed, it had a loose base, meaning that I would be able to lift any pies/tarts/quiches out of the tin without having to scrape down the sides and making my life easier in general.  And it was fluted, of course.  Edit: I made a pie with this yesterday – post coming soon!

Set of 4 white-gold tone ramekins ($5.99) – by this point I am getting rather sick of typing ‘ramekins’ but this deserves a place in my post too.  This is the set of four I got from Aldi; I have yet to use them but yay for shiny things.  Obviously very cheap, but until something goes wrong when I use them, this was a good buy for me.

heaps of fun :D

i spent nearly 12 hs in the city today, about 10 with michael and 8 with cloudier x)

busked, earned about $8 and a small bottle of mount franklin, gave the water to a woman begging for money for food/DRINK, and $1.55 to a pregnant woman also in the tunnel, found by mic sitting opposite a small army of falun meditators (?) in belmore park, found a more quiet spot in dampish shade where we played random songs and smokers came by and sat and secretly listened and i coughed a bit and the lady who complimented us went away D: then this hobo with red pants came by and took a wee at a nearby tree, then came and sat down with us and asked for a song by the eagles which we didn’t know so i played him “she’s electric” and he hi-fived us and went away and mic and i ran away and found a bathroom near capitol [which wasn’t near capitol at all] to wash our hands after trying not to touch anything and we headed towards market city where i tried to do bag-shopping with mic for a backpack for school and ended up buying a nice blue cotton/spandex tank at giordano and after that we shared a lychee + grape jelly easy way and cloudier came and we went to galaxy world where i failed standard drumming and did all right at beginners [i owe cloudier 2 swipes/$4] and mic’s ddr drew a small crowd which disappeared right after he failed the round [he was stomping on those arrows like a furious madman… some nice tautology there] and i bumped into serena from jenesys who was there for a friend’s birthday! i want to get my own card on a triple tuesday some tuesday… then we left and went around shopping and i went back to giordano and made a new friend April [haha it’s her month, geddit ahaha] and discovered that we both sang and played guitar [except she was in a “real band” with reggae masters] so we exchanged mobile numbers and i said i’d follow her concerts up at kingsford and she gave me an extra discount so i would buy this jumper i really really really wanted [but wasn’t certain mum would be happy with] which says “TWO THUMBS UP” on the front so i bought it any way for $36 and we were hungry by 2-ish so we went to ramen-kan where i tried to ask for a discount if i got the teppanomuraisu [teppan rice omelet] without salad and ended up saying a lot in jap [like sarada] but then half-way through our delicious meal i realised i had asked for the price to be more kind/gentler rather than cheaper [oops] and mic was recovering his tongue from the burns of his chili tonkatsu-ish thing, and cloudier was wondering why she bought so much, and then i filled my green bottle with the remaining jug water and we left for karaoke but ended up walking through the markets near chinatown where we saw various interesting things on sale, a lot of people snacking on those fried potato spring/coils, and i somehow convinced cloudier to buy a pair of zipper earrings for $10 by reminding her that her ears were not pierced… and we lost cloud for a bit and mic and i discovered one of those statue guys and he REALLY RESEMBLED MR WILSON, especially when he tapped someone on the shoulder and they turned around but he pulled a straight “it-wasn’t-me” face that was REALLY LIKE MR WILSON, so i went up to him at gave him 50c and tried to take a slip of paper from him, but he wouldn’t let me have it like i saw him do with the others, so i held out my hand and he shoved his cheek in my face and i was like “but you’re too tall!” so he bent down and when i tried to kiss him on the cheek, complaining that i’d get silver lips, he turned right at the end and I ENDED UP HALF-KISSING HIM ON THE LIPS OMGOSH i think everyone there except michael saw it sheesh and he REALLY RESEMBLED MR WILSON which was awkward. i finally got the slip of paper that said: “A man who always steps in the footprints of others, Doesnt leave some of his own. Armin Becker” so i guess that makes me special. but still. mr wilson. i don’t think i’ll be able to see him in the same way again now. we escaped via the market city entrance and tried going for karaoke again but this time we ended up at norita where mic and cloudier, both stuffed, bought an ice cream coffee and hot chocolate drink respectively, and we tried to play cluedo which completely failed because the cards in play doubled up and none of us could figure out the guest/weapon/room [the shop assistants even gave us two board game sets so we could grab any missing pieces – there was no rope in either but i incidentally found a folded scrap of paper with “ROPE” written on it so we used that instead] and now we know how to play! we unanimously decided we needed to relieve the stress and frustration of cluedo with karaoke so we finally headed there and it was 18:30 already and the 3hr session was the one that came with a free drink, so i somehow managed to ask my mum to let me stay in the city until about just before 9, then about 9, then maybe even 9:30, and with the aid of mic and cloud’s virtual support it somehow worked and she was cool to pick me up THAT LATE so we rejoiced and waited down, around, and back outside because all the rooms were full !! it was the most epic karaoke ever since none of us really minded what song was played as long as it was interesting, and nobody got really PO’d which was a first for me for k so we were all being a bit crazy with the singing and mic sounded like he was absolutely murdering his voice [which i hope he wasn’t] and even cloud managed to introduce us to a new singer “florence” which i must remember to check out. i need to work on harmonising – it just doesn’t come as naturally anymore somehow, but even though we probably sounded terrible as i went through my phases of guttural, screamo, grunge, opera and just weird, it was hilarious and mum entered 30 mins too early and got kicked out by the karaoke place assistants, which i was actually thankful for because that was when “the best of you” came on and i just lost it ahaha i love that song. i love the foo fighters. and cloudier and mic loved big echo because it actually had REAL MUSIC VIDEOS [oh my gosh!] because for some reason a lot of k places don’t… i owe cloudier $15.

Go Novak Djokovic!  No more Jim Courier :(  AND AND Henri Leconte is awesome.

School tomorrow!  And only one more month of summer…

I finished an iOS game two days ago, a turn-based RPG called Ash.  Anyway, it was really good!  I got it for free (it’s $5.99) and I’m a casual gamer and haven’t played RPGs much.  But I found it very simple to play and control, and the plot was interesting and mysterious!  The dialogue was also very witty but heartfelt and made the story better.  And there was a twist and a cliffhanger at the end.  The ending is so sweet, in a sad way ._.  So I can’t wait for Ash 2!  The only suggestion I have for the developers is to add a quest guide that remembers what the player has to do, i.e. ‘travel to southwestern caves’ or ‘find Village Elder’, because I’m forgetful, especially after I’ve left the game for a while.

Speaking of iOS I remember Claudia once posted something about how the App Store is unorganised and drives people to jailbreak their apps.  I totally agree with the unorganised part (not so sure about it driving people to hack their iPods though.  I think that’s just because they don’t want to pay >.>) and it is such a pain searching/browsing the app store.  To find a specific app you have to get the exact name, and the categories are filled with apps that shouldn’t be there, such as a fashion game that was under ‘music games’.

Got my dose of retail therapy today!  Went to Granville for yumcha again (and tried to unsuspiciously avoid the trolley lady’s gaze when she came by our table) and I think it’s both good and bad that Chinese restaurants all serve the same dishes at yumcha – it’s easier to order stuff and you know what’s on offer – but there aren’t many unique dishes.  I can’t think of any.

I hate it when…I’m brushing my teeth, and my hand slips and the head of my toothbrush hits my gums and leaves a cut and hurts like billy-o.  And you know the cut’s going to turn into an ulcer.  And then it does, and you can’t complain to your mum because she’ll just say it’s your fault for eating too much fried/spicy food and ban you from eating any more.  And it’s all because your hand slipped while you were brushing your teeth.
